EMI chief confident of ability to call a new tune

Dismissing claims within the gossipy music business that he overpaid and is out of his depth, Mr Hands concedes he has taken on what he labels "the perfect storm" by acquiring the fabled but struggling British music company for £3.2bn. But he is confident he knows how to fix it. His stark diagnosis is that the industry is stuck in the past, full of executives living off glory days from the launch of the CD, managing flabby bureaucracies, and refusing to face the challenges of the internet.
